An Army bomb disposal unit was sent to an area near a Dublin concert venue on Tuesday afternoon after a suspicious device was discovered.

The device was found at around 3pm on Bow Lane in Kilmainham, Dublin 8, close to IMMA where Deftones were due to perform that evening.

DublinLive reports Gardaí attended the scene and the area was cordoned off while the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team carried out an assessment.

Access to the concert was not affected by the operation, although heavy traffic was reported in the area as several roads were closed due to the gig and the bomb disposal operation.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí attended the scene following report of a suspicious device in the St James, Dublin 8 area on Tuesday 25th August 2026 that occurred at approximately 3:00pm.”

“The area was cordoned off and the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended the scene.”

The device was subsequently removed by the Army EOD team for further examination.

The Garda spokesperson confirmed that the cordon has since been lifted and the scene has been cleared.

“The device has been removed from the scene by the Army EOD for further examination and the cordon has been lifted. Investigations are ongoing,” they said.

A Defence Forces spokesperson said: “This afternoon, bomb disposal experts from the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to a request for assistance from An Garda Síochána in relation to suspected device found in the Kilmainham area of Dublin.”

“Following an assessment by the EOD team, a device was removed from the scene, and the scene was handed over to AGS. This operation has now concluded.”
