Sylvester Stallone has heard the nepo baby criticism, but he is standing by his decision to give his daughter Scarlet Rose a role in his hit television series Tulsa King.

The 24-year-old actress has played Spencer in the Paramount+ crime drama since its first season, and her character has a bigger part in the show's ongoing fourth season.

Stallone, who stars as Dwight “The General” Manfredi, addressed the criticism during an interview with USA Today, openly admitting that nepotism played a part in his daughter's casting.

“Of course it’s nepotism, you idiot,” he said. “That's why we're parents. We want the best for our children. So, obviously we let them have every advantage.”

And he is not apologising for it.

“You’re not a good parent if you haven’t performed a little nepotism,” Sylvester added. “Then obviously you don’t care about your kids, because they come first.”

Tulsa King follows Dwight Manfredi, a New York mafia boss who is sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, after spending 25 years in prison.

Rather than being welcomed back by his old criminal organisation, he is sent away to build a new operation from scratch, gradually putting together a crew of unlikely associates.

Scarlet plays Spencer, who initially works as a barista before becoming involved in Dwight's world and taking a job caring for horses at a ranch. Her character becomes increasingly connected to his operation, with her storyline developing further in the fourth season.

The series was created by Taylor Sheridan, the man behind Yellowstone, and also stars Martin Starr, Jay Will and Garrett Hedlund.

Stallone has previously spoken about watching his daughter grow as an actress through the show, saying that while he may have helped open the door, she has to prove she can hold her own.

“Can they maintain that level of excellence? That's out of our hands,” he told USA Today. “But if you can open the door, we'll see if they have the ability to go through it.”

Scarlet has also spoken warmly about working alongside her father, saying the experience has brought them closer.

“Before, he was working constantly, so getting to work together for once is just an amazing opportunity,” she told People. “We've grown as friends. We've really become friends. We really got to know one another and really respect each other throughout this whole process, through the ups and downs.”

The father-daughter duo will have more time to work together, too. Tulsa King has already been renewed for a fifth season, with Scarlet set to become a series regular.
