Blue Oyster Cult founding member Allen Lanier has died.
The keyboardist/rhythm guitarist was suffering with lung cancer and made his last appearance with the band at a 40th anniversary gig last year.
Blue Oyster Cult’s lead singer Eric Bloom described Lanier as a talented musician and thinker, but that “smoking finally got to him”. He added: “all BOC fans and band members will mourn his death…Maybe he’s playing a tune with Jim Carroll right now”.
Lanier worked with Jim Carroll during his career, as well as The Clash and Patti Smith.
He passed away from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease yesterday at the age of 67.
