Earlier this week, Bob Dylan met with Pope Leo XIV at a private audience at the Vatican.
It was reported in Vatican News that the American singer songwriter visited the Apostolic Palace on Wednesday, exchanging gifts with Pope.
At the this meeting, Dylan was presented with a rosary by pontiff, while he gave Pope Leo a copy of his autobiography, Chronicles: Volume One. The meeting was described by The Vatican as brief, as the pair exchanged a few gifts and a few words.
Photographs were later released, showing the pair greeting each other, with the Pope dressed in his customary white cassock, while Dylan was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
This meeting was partly arranged by Father Antonia Spadaro, who said it was an emotional and historic occasion.
Pope Leo has previously expressed his admiration of Dylan's work, having previously quoted lyrics from his 1963 anti nuclear protest track, Go Away You Bomb in the preface to a book about disarmament. This track was never recorded or released on any album.
Prior to this, Dylan had met Pope John Paul II when he performed at a Catholic gathering in Bologna in 1997. The Pope later referred to Dylan's track, 'Blowin in the Wind' during an address to the crowd.
Bob Dylan is currently on tour in Italy, and is to perform in Rome on Thursday, as part of his Rough and Rowdy Ways tour.
Back in July, Bob Dylan had announced a tour of the UK, which is to include a five night residency in London. This will take place at the Royal Festival Hall from December 3rd and 8th this year. He will also play live in Bournemouth, Birmingham, and Blackpool.
