Gardaí responded to the discovery of the device first, near the Northway Estate in Dublin 11.
Residents of the area were evacuated from their homes and Gardaí cordoned off the area due to "viable" concerns about the device, while waiting for the EOD team to arrive.
The residents have been allowed to return to there homes as the restrictions were lifted and no injuries or damage was reported.
The Garda investigation is currently ongoing.
