Bono has shared a fresh update on new music from U2.
Speaking in a new interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the U2 lead singer said that the writing process for this album saw them overcome the past to make "the sound of the future".
The musician was appearing on the chat show, as he celebrates his upcoming one man show, Bono: Stories of Surrender, which is due to stream on Apple TV+ from tomorrow. This interview also saw him reveal that the band have been working in the studio and are actively looking to start a new chapter.
On the show, Bono was asked how the new U2 music was shaping up, which saw him issue this reply.
“We’ve been in the studio and you’ve sometimes got to deal with the past to get to the present, in order to make the sound of the future. That’s what we want to do", Bono told Kimmel.
Bono also offered viewers an insight into the mindset that his bandmates have when they unite, and how this mentality has shaped their songs.
“It’s the sound of four men, who feel like their lives depend on it. I remind them, they do,” he said. “Nobody needs a new U2 album unless it’s an extraordinary one. I’m feeling very strong about it", he explained.
He also revealed that the album has “songs for the kitchen, songs for the speedway, the garage [and] songs for every part of your life”, adding: “[There are] songs to make up to, songs to break up to, and U2 makes a very unique sound when we play together. The sound of a room is what we’re going for".
In a previous interview, Bono said that U2's next album which will serve as a follow up to 2017's Songs of Excellence "sounds like the future". More on this from Nova here.
