Bradley Cooper is set to write, direct and star in a new Ocean’s prequel alongside Margot Robbie. Warner Bros confirmred the long-awaited project is officially moving forward.

The film was one of the headline announcements during the studio’s presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where Warner Bros unveiled a packed upcoming slate.

The yet-to-be-titled prequel is scheduled to land in cinemas on June 25, 2027, with Cooper also producing alongside Robbie’s LuckyChap banner.

The project has been widely rumoured for some time, but was formally confirmed by studio heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy during the presentation.

Cooper, who most recently directed Is This Thing On?, will take on triple duties behind and in front of the camera, while Robbie stars opposite him in a fresh take on the iconic heist franchise.

Robbie also made a virtual appearance at the Las Vegas event, teasing new details about the film’s storyline.

“Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows: his parents."

"You’ll see them in all their prime in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.”

The prequel will explore the origins of the Ocean family, shifting the action back to Europe in the early 1960s, with the glamorous Monaco Grand Prix serving as the backdrop for a high-stakes heist.

The announcement comes after director Lee Isaac Chung exited the project last month due to creative differences.

At the time, Warner Bros and LuckyChap said in a joint statement: “Lee Isaac is a singular filmmaking talent whose vision and partnership have been invaluable to Warner Bros. and LuckyChap throughout this journey. Our experience with him has only deepened our enthusiasm to collaborate on future projects together.”

The new film builds on a franchise that has remained a major draw for audiences since its modern revival in 2001 with Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Eleven.

That film, itself a remake of the 1960 original starring Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, featured a star-studded cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and Matt Damon, and went on to spawn two sequels, concluding with 2007’s Ocean’s Thirteen.

The franchise was later expanded with the 2018 spin-off Ocean’s Eight, directed by Gary Ross and led by Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway, proving the enduring appeal of the heist series across different generations and casts.

The Ocean’s update led a broader Warner Bros showcase at CinemaCon, where the studio also debuted new footage from Dune: Part Three, introduced by Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and Jason Momoa. Meanwhile, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman presented a first look at Practical Magic 2.

Elsewhere, Warner Bros highlighted a number of upcoming projects, including Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Digger, starring Tom Cruise, as well as confirming release dates for several major titles such as The Revenge of La Llorona (April 9, 2027), Evil Dead Wrath (April 7, 2028), Final Destination 7 (May 12, 2028), The Flood (August 11, 2028), Gladys (September 8, 2028), and an untitled Baz Luhrmann film (November 22, 2028).

The studio also teased a Game of Thrones prequel film focused on Aegon’s Conquest, signalling its continued investment in major franchise storytelling.

With Cooper and Robbie now firmly attached, the new Ocean’s prequel marks a significant step forward for the franchise, bringing fresh creative direction while tying directly into the legacy of one of Hollywood’s most recognisable heist series.
