Charlie Hunnam is bringing much of the Sons of Anarchy cast back together for a brand new series – but there is a major twist.
FX has officially ordered the limited series Legends, which has been created and written by Hunnam, who will also star alongside Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates and Theo Rossi.

And rather than returning as their Sons of Anarchy characters, they will all play themselves.
The meta-thriller will follow the cast as they reunite at a fan convention more than a decade after the original series ended.
Things take a dramatic turn when the line between their lives on screen and their real lives begins to blur, with the group facing a real-world threat more dangerous than anything they encountered in Sons of Anarchy.

FX described the series as “both a love letter to the series and a fun meta twist on what fans think they know.”
Theo Rossi, who played Juice Ortiz in Sons of Anarchy, also teased what fans can expect, writing: “This is gonna be a WILD RIDE.”
Sons of Anarchy originally ran for seven seasons on FX between 2008 and 2014, with Hunnam starring as Jax Teller, a member of the outlaw motorcycle club SAMCRO.
The series became one of FX's biggest hits and ran for 92 episodes, eventually spawning the spin-off Mayans M.C., which ran for five seasons from 2018 to 2023.
Legends will mark a return to the world of Sons of Anarchy for Hunnam, although fans shouldn't expect to see him back as Jax.

The character's story ended definitively in the original series, and the new show instead plays with the relationship between the actors, their famous characters and the fans who followed them.
The unusual concept also means viewers will get to see the actors acknowledge their Sons of Anarchy past while existing as fictionalised versions of themselves.
Jonathan Groff has developed the series alongside Hunnam, while Rob Mac, Nicholas Frenkel and Jackie Cohn are among the executive producers. The series will be produced by FX Productions and 20th Television.

A release date has not yet been announced, and filming has yet to begin.
For Sons of Anarchy fans, though, seeing Hunnam, Perlman, Sagal, Siff, Flanagan, Coates and Rossi together again is likely to be one of the most unexpected TV reunions in years.
