All 48 victims of the 1981 Stardust fire in Dublin were unlawfully killed.

The jury at the inquests returned its verdicts this afternoon.

They found the blaze started as a result of an electrical fault, while emergency exits at the venue were “locked, chained or otherwise obstructed.”

These inquests were the largest in the history of the state, and has come 43 years after the blaze at a valentines night ball in the Artane venue.

As the verdicts were reached, loud cheers rang out around the packed pillar room Dublin’s Rotunda Hospital.
