Cillian Murphy and Grian Chatten have explained Nick Cave's version of 'Red Right Hand' for the new Peaky Blinders movie, 'Immortal Man'.
The movie, which hit Netflix on March 20, will once again see Oscar winner Murphy reprise his role as Tommy Shelby, alongside fellow Irish actor, Barry Keoghan, as well as Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson, Sophie Rundle and Stephen Graham.
Last month, Fontaines D.C lead singer Grian Chatten had spoken about creating another track for the movie, Puppet, which he said was "the one that was the most delicate, lyrically", before adding: "The vocals are so present in the mix. Literally the wrong letter at the end of the word I felt could throw things off".
“There’s a precariousness, I think, in the verses in the music,” he added. “It’s kind of on a knife’s edge, that’s where the tension comes from".
Now, Murphy and Chatten have spoken about having Nick Cave re record 'Red Right Hand' for The Immortal Man.
In a new clip, Cillian Murphy has said that they “very deliberately” delayed including the theme track in the film, as it was important that Cave sand it "at his age now", conveying that sense of being "broken and shattered".
On this, Grian Chatten also commented: “When I was watching the film, and that part came on, I was really hyper-listening to the new details of his voice, to discover how much time had passed, not only for him, but for Tommy".
“And I think, to hold it back as well, to withhold the title track, the theme tune, until he’s up on the horse, but he’s battered, and it really works,” Murphy added, to which Chatten responded: “Seeing Tommy covered in mud and hearing Nick, like, covered in age marks of living".
Earlier this month, Barry Keoghan shared the surprising way he landed a role in the new Peaky Blinders movie.
Keoghan, who will play Duke Shelby in the movie, the son of Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, explained how he was once mistaken for Murphy's actual son when they were travelling home together from filming Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk.
It was at this point that one casual message to Murphy ultimately led to Keoghan landing the role for real.
"I was a massive fan of the series", he said. "I texted Cillian on Father’s Day to wish him a happy Father’s Day".
"He got back to me and asked me if I wanted to play his son in the Peaky Blinders movie. It was a no brainer. He’s Cillian Murphy, I’d work with Cillian Murphy on anything", he added. More on this from Nova here.
