A crowdfunder has been set up for a permanent tribute mural in Manchester in honour of late Stone Roses' icon, Gary 'Mani' Mounfield.
Mounfield who burst onto the scene after joining Stone Roses in 1987 until they disbanded in 1996, passed away aged 63.
His death was confirmed by his brother Greg, which happened just over a week after announcing a UK wide tour.
“IT IS WITH THE HEAVIEST OF HEARTS THAT I HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THE SAD PASSING OF MY BROTHER GARY MANI MOUNFIELD. RIP RKID", Greg wrote.
Other names to pay tribute include Stone Roses frontman, Ian Brown, who added: “REST IN PEACE MANi X”, while The Stone Roses also shared tribute from their official account, writing: “RIP our wonderful brother Mani. The greatest bass player and friend we could ever have wished for". See more tributes on this here.
Now, a crowdfunding campaign has been launched in Mani's honour, calling for the instalment of a large painting of him in Failsworth, the North Manchester suburb where he grew up.
Launched by GRIT Studios, the crowdfunder aims to raise money for Maggie's Centre, a cancer support charity who are based in Manchester, supporting Mani and his wife Imelda during her treatment.
Should this project go ahead, it will be created by Pic.One.Art, which were also responsible for the mural of the Gallagher brothers in Burnage following Oasis' iconic reunion shows from last year.
There is still 40 days left to contribute to the crowdfunder at the time of writing and it has already raised more than £4,7000, just under 50% of its£10,000.
