Happy Friday! No plans for the night? Well now you do. It’s Culture Night 2017 tonight and there’s over 3,000 events on across the country!

This is the 13th year of Culture Night and every year has been a success! Not familiar with it?

Every year on Culture Night, venues and public spaces open up their doors after hours to host a variety of events – all FREE. There’s so much to do, including poetry reading, trad sessions, aerial performances, walking tours, visual art, film screenings, food tours, access to museums, free concerts, architecture and more!

There’s definitely something for everyone, including lots of family-friendly activities on the schedule.

The event is run by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, in partnership with the local authorities, regional arts offices, and cultural organisations of each county. The aim of Culture Night is to encourage people to go to more events held in cultural venues in their locality. It also raises the profile of these organisations and facilities.

Dublin City Council Arts Officer Ray Yeates said of the event: “The rich and varied programme includes hundreds of events taking place in iconic and historical buildings and institutions and smaller, more unusual venues.”

There’s a fantastic app that you can download free of charge from the Google Play and Apple App Store. The app allows you to plan your own personal ‘trail’, which you can add events to and plan your route. You can also use it to check out what events are near you, with the ‘near me’ function.

Upload your own photos from Culture Night to the app and the best photos will receive prizes.
