Damon Albarn Hints At Future Gorillaz Collaboration With Paul McCartney

Damon Albarn has suggested that a future Gorillaz collaboration with former Beatle Paul McCartney could happen.

Gorillaz are famed for their collaborations. From Bobby Womack, to De La Soul to Mark E.Smith and even Snoop Dogg, many artists have collaborated with the animated band. Their newest album, ‘Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez has guests feature on every song including Beck, St. Vincent and many more. You can read more about their new album here.

Speaking on the Dutch podcast, Kink, Albarn suggested that McCartney could appear on a Gorillaz song soon.

“I have a recording of Paul and myself that I could use for a Gorillaz track” he said. “It could easily fit on a Gorillaz album”.

He went on to add “It’s a very simple, basic recording but I would never release it without talking to him first.”

Despite having the recording, Albarn was reluctant to say he had a song with McCartney. He explained that in his eyes he doesn’t have “a track with Paul, because I don’t, but I could definitely work with him”. “He is one of the most special pop musicians ever”.

Last week, Gorillaz released their new music video for the their track ‘The Valley of the Pagans’. The video sees the band go on a joyride in Vinewood, the fictional version of Hollywood from the video game, Grand Theft Auto V. You can read more about it here and watch the video below.

Gorillaz will be hitting the road in Europe next summer, before that, the band are due to play a special live stream concert next month.

The show is called ‘SONG MACHINE LIVE’ and sees Gorillaz resident animator Jamie Hewlett team up with Damon Albarn and the virtual band mates, Russel, Noodle and Murdoch perform.

In a press release, the Gorillaz said ” ‘Song Machine’ is the ongoing and ever-evolving process which sees Gorillaz release new episodes throughout 2020, recorded and captured live in Kong Studios and beyond, and made available as and when they are ready”.
