Tragedy was narrowly averted on Sunday night, after a person was thrown into a bin, before being pushed onto train tracks in North Dublin.
This incident, described as an "appalling attack" according to reports in the Irish Mirror, took place at Harmonstown DART just before 8pm on Sunday evening, which happened when a person was forced into a large bin by a group, before it was pushed onto the tracks with the victim inside it.
Thankfully, despite suffering injuries from their fall onto the tracks, the victim managed to get out of the way before a DART saw the bin and was able to stop the tram in time.
Dublin Live also reported on the incident, and Barry Kenny, Corporate Communications Manager at Iarnród Éireann said of the incident: "This was an appalling attack which had the potential to be much worse".
"While the victim was able to immediately get off the track and back onto the platform, the driver of a Northbound DART saw the bin which was still on the tracks as the train approached and brought the DART to a halt in time", he continued.
"However, had the individual been incapacitated by the fall, an express service such as an Enterprise or Commuter service would have taken a much longer time to stop, with the obvious potential for serious or fatal injury".
"Ambulance services, Gardaí and our own security and infrastructure staff attended, and services were delayed for 18 minutes. We have retained CCTV to assist Gardaí with their investigation, and ask anyone with further information to contact the Gardaí".
At the time of writing, An Garda Síochána were yet to comment on the matter.
Earlier today, Gardaí issued a fresh appeal for witnesses as part of an ongoing investigation into the death of 35 year old, Yves Sakila, following an alleged shoplifting incident in Dublin back in May. More on this from Nova here.
