Foo Fighters' frontman, Dave Grohl has said that the death of his bandmate, Taylor Hawkins "made me question everything about life".

Taylor Hawkins died just before the band were due to perform in Bogotá, Columbia as part of a huge tour in 2022. At the time of his death, several drugs were found in his system, including, antidepressants, opiates, and marijuana. He was 50 years old.

Grohl spoke about this in a recent interview, where he addressed the impact of the drummer's death on their upcoming record, 'You're Favourite Toy', which is set to arrive via Roswell Records/Columbia Records on April 24.

The singer told MOJO that “losing Taylor was never meant to be,” adding: “That threw our world upside down and made me question everything about life, that it was so unfair. I still have a hard time making sense of it".

Grohl went on to admit that he had "no plan" to record new music following Hawkins' death, but soon realised that creating music was "something we needed to do it".

He recalled how music "had saved us before", referring to Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain's death in 1994, which saw Grohl later form Foo Fighters.

“I could have used a bit more of the silence, a bit more of digging deeper. I never want to say music is a distraction, but I was definitely using it as a crutch for some broken limb", Grohl explained.

"talk about him every day"

Back in February, Dave Grohl opened up about Taylor Hawkins' death, saying that the "world is not the same" without him.

Speaking to Zane Low, Dave Grohl admitted that continuing with the band was "really complicated", while adding that they "talk about him every day".

"We had Taylor Hawkins as our drummer for 25 years and, beyond being an amazing drummer, he was this incredible spirit", he said. "He was this incredible human being and he was our brother. He was our best friend. So continuing on after Taylor was really complicated, not just for us, but for any drummer that was going to come in to like, you know, fill his shoes".

Grohl also revealed that this interview was taking place on what would have been Hawkins' 54th birthday.

"We wake up in the morning and everybody just texts about how much we miss him and how the world’s not the same without him, but we still feel him very much", he said. "We always talk about him every f****** day. In everything we do we want to have that energy - we want to have that energy for Taylor".
