Drummer Terry Cox, who collaborated with artists like David Bowie, Elton John, the Bee Gees and others, has died aged 89.
Cox was also renowned for his on/off work with the band, Pentangle, having worked with them across various reunions following their initial run between 1967 and 1973. It was Pentangle who announced his death, calling him a "drummer of rare instinct and imagination".
"Terry Cox R.I.P", the band wrote. "One of Pentangle’s five points of light - a drummer of rare instinct and imagination. Alongside Danny Thompson, he formed a rhythm section that redefined the boundaries of folk, jazz, and beyond. Our love and condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who knew him".
Cox played a key role in Pentangle hitting No 5 in the UK chart with Basket of Light.
He has also been credited with playing on David Bowie's 'Space Oddity', which also featured Pentangle's Herbie Flowers, and Rick Wakeman. The song reached top spot in the UK and No 15 in the US.
Cox then went on to feature on some of Elton John's albums, including his top 15 self titled debut album in 1970. He played on John's 'The Greatest Discovery', and 'The Kings Must Die', as well as three songs on his triple platinum hit, Madman Across The Water, including the title track in 1971.
Other Cox credits include replacing long time Bee Gees drummer, Colin Petersen on 1970's Cucumber Castle, as well as Rick Springfield's 1874 LP, Comic Book, and a number of albums from Alexis Korner, who had worked with Charlie Watts, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker.
Cox also wrote songs for Lenny Zakatek, who worked with the Alan Parsons Project, who sang top 40 hits, 'I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You', 'Damned If I Do' and 'Games People Play'.
