David Gilmour has celebrated Pink Floyd's album, 'Wish You Were Here' reaching number one in the UK's Christmas Album Charts.

The album had been reissued with new physical and digital editions as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations. It was announced over the weekend that this reissue had hit number one in the Official Albums Charts for Christmas.

This comes despite the fact the album did not hit top spot following its initial release in 1975.

This latest feat means that Pink Floyd are now the artist boasting the longest span between their first and last Number One albums, with 2.620 weeks, or 50 years.

Celebrating this news on social media, Gilmour said: “Raising a glass to the wonderful news that Wish You Were Here is the UK’s Christmas Number 1 album". See the post in full here.

Back in October, David Gilmour ruled out working with former Pink Floyd bandmate Roger Waters.

The former Pink Floyd bandmates have not been on speaking terms since Watters' departure in 1985, with the row becoming largely political over the last few years, with Gilmour claiming last year that he would rather "steer clear of people who actively support genocidal and autocratic dictators like Putin and Maduro".

"Nothing,” Gilmour said to The Telegraph after being asked about the thoughts of reuniting with Waters. “There is no possible way that I would do that". More on this here.

Earlier this month, Pink Floyd had announced plans to host pop up stores across the UK, Europe and America, marking the 50th anniversary of 'Wish You Were Here'.

They announced plans to open stores London, Paris, Barcelona and Los Angeles, are in collaboration with Sony Music and News & Coffee, the independent magazine retailer and coffee roaster, all part of celebrations for the album's 50th anniversary. You can find out more on this from Nova here.
