Depeche Mode have announced that their epic concert movie, M, will hit cinema screens worldwide later this year.
Directed by Mexican filmmaker Fernando Frias, M will comprise of footage taken from three sold out shows at Mexico City's Foro Sol Stadium, as part of their 'Memento Mori' tours in 2023 and 2024.
The film is to be shown in front of over 2,500 cinemas across more than 60 countries, arriving on October 28, which was made by the band, along with Trafalgar Releasing and Sony Music Vision. It is said to give fans the chance to see pair Dave Gahan and Martin Gore on their journey “into the heart of Mexican culture’s relationship with death, framed by the iconic live performances”.
The shows also show Depeche Mode members show off their multi-cultural influences, and explore the connection between music, mortality and Mexican tradition.
On this movie, Gahan said: “At its core, our new film M is about the deep connection between music, culture, and people – and Fernando Frías, who directed and conceived the film, did a beautiful job telling that story that through the lens of Mexican culture and our shows in Mexico City".
Trafalgar Releasing's CEO, Marc Allenby added: “We’re proud to continue our longstanding collaboration with Sony Music Vision and IMAX to bring Depeche Mode: M to audiences worldwide in October. This cinematic experience is a perfect celebration of the ‘Memento Mori Tour’ and the deep connection Depeche Mode has with their global fanbase".
Prior to this, Fernando Frias has worked on the award winning film, I'm No Longer Here, which won 10 accolades at Mexico's prestigious Ariel Academy Awards.
