TikTok are set to announce more lay offs for Irish based workers, as jobs in its ecommerce team continue to come under threat, according to reports.
The Irish Times have reported that a number of small roles could go, with almost a dozen staff affected by the latest round of lay offs at the company's base in Dublin's Sorting Office in the south docks.
Staff are set to enter a consultation with the company, which is required under Irish law. It is believed that they were informed of the situation at a meeting this morning.
It has also been reported that these new lay offs are separate to the recently announced job cuts from the social media site. There had been concerns that the ecommerce jobs would relocate to ByteDance owned TikTok's London office, with contractors to fill the jobs.
TikTok have yet to comment on the matter.
This all comes a month after it was announced that almost 300 jobs were to be cut at the company's office in Dublin, as part of a restructuring plan, which would see 670 jobs at risk, but an extra 321 new roles being created, affecting employees offered the chance to apply for them.
This follows several rounds of job cuts over the last few years, including a widely reported cut of 250-300 of Dublin employees, most of whom had worked at the company's training and quality arms.
Plans for a second Dublin office building were also scrapped, which was later followed by another cut of 300 jobs last year, that was expected to made in the company's trust and safety unit, which looks at content moderation.
TikTok had opened its first Dublin office in 2020, starting with just 20 staff, before quickly expanding in popularity during the Covid-19 pandemic. The company peaked at about 3,000 employees in Ireland, opening a transparency and accountability centre in Dublin, which saw it join similar offices in Washington, Los Angeles and Singapore.
