Award winning Irish actress Nicola Coughlan of Derry Girls and Bridgerton was on hand last night in The Glyde Inn, Annagassan, Co Louth to help mark 50 years of the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland.

She ordered a pint of Guinness and was challenged to guess the difference between the cake version and the real thing. “Happy Anniversary VFI! Wishing you many more years of supporting the pubs of Ireland. Some of my favourite memories from home are spending time in a proper Irish pub, getting together with old friends and making new memories, there’s nothing like it. So let’s raise a pint (preferably of Guinness but the cake deserves an honourable mention) to the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland!” Nicola Coughlan said.

Also marking 50 years of the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland, Guinness has created miniature versions of six iconic Irish pubs and images of the six “cake pubs” will appear in digital and social advertising across the country for everyone to see.

The featured pubs include the Glyde Inn in Louth, as well as Reardens in Cork, The Porter House in Mayo, Treacy’s in Laois, The Cloch Ban in Wexford and Mother Mac’s in Limerick.

Conor O’Neill, owner of The Glyde Inn said, “We do love a good celebration here at The Glyde Inn. Our pub has been trading since the 1770s, so we’re well versed in throwing a party or two… but this one is especially important. A big sláinte from us to the VFI for 50 years of support and to our friends at Guinness.”

This writer was delighted to attend the party, as a guest of Guinness, and see the latest chapter in a long history of collaboration between the VFI and Guinness. It was a great celebration, including amazing cake artistry from Corinna Maguire, some brilliant live music from Pillow Queens  and the “icing on the cake”, having a chat with Nicola about her upcoming role in Doctor Who and other much-loved roles.
