A 'do not swim' notice has been issued for a popular Dublin beach as an investigation is underway.

Fingal County Council have issued a swimming ban for Claremont Beach after high levels of bacteria were found in the waters.

The notice was given today after results of samples taken on July 13th showed a significant amount of bacteria in the water.

The issue is still being investigated, however Fingal County Council have warned beachgoers to refrain from taking a dip as a precaution to public health.

Fingal County Council have consulted the HSE about the matter. They released a statement which said: “Following elevated bacterial results obtained from samples collected at Claremont Beach on 13 July 2026, a decision has been made to place a ‘do not swim’ notice at the beach. As a precautionary measure to protect public health, the warning signage has been erected at the bathing water location advising the public not to swim until further notice."

"The beach will remain open but beach users are asked to respect the ‘do not swim’ notice as it has been put in place to ensure that the health of bathers is not compromised. An investigation into the potential source of the elevated bacterial levels is underway, and resampling will be arranged as appropriate," Fingal County Council said in a statement via The Sun.
