Don’t attempt to quit smoking on your own is the message from the HSE on National No Smoking Day.
Half of people who smoke will die from a related illness – and this week alone, over 100 people will die as a result of smoking.
Ash Wednesday is the day which people traditionally use to try and kick the habit.
Dr. Paul Kavanagh from the HSE says that if a smoker decides to quit, they’ll feel the benefits almost instantly.
Meanwhile, the Irish Heart Foundation says supporting smokers who are quitting is key to success.
Chris Macey – Head of Advocacy at the organisation – believes a good network of people around a smoker can prove crucial.
