Elijah Wood has admitted that he can no longer listen to Metallica's hit Enter Sandman.
The Lord Of The Rings star made these comments in a recent interview with NME, while promoting his new comedy-horror, Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come.
On the iconic Metallica hit, Elijah Wood his that son who was born in 2019, listened to religiously from the age of four, to a point that it has ruined it for him.
“It’s specifically because of my son,” Wood explained. “He was about four when I introduced him to it and then it became the only song that he wanted to hear for a very long stretch of time. It’s actually not too inappropriate lyrically. It’s a little scary, but there isn’t anything too gnarly".
Despite this, Elijah Wood insists that he is still a huge fan of rock and alternative music, recalling his first ever concert which saw him watch The Smashing Pumpkins perform at the Great Western Forum in 1996.
“It was on the Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness tour and Garbage opened for them,” Wood recalled. “I was just about to turn 16 and it was absolutely incredible. It was at that time when Billy [Corgan, vocals/guitars] basically wore the ‘Zero’ shirt for the better part of two or three years. It was also the first time he shaved his head. I was a huge, huge Pumpkins fan and so for them to be my first concert was so appropriate".
Enter Sandman was released by Metallica in July 1991, hitting the top 10 in the UK, Ireland, Finland, Denmark and Canada. The track went on to reach a billion streams in 2023.
The track was released as part of the band's iconic Black Album, which became one of the biggest selling albums of all time, certified Diamond twice in the US, as well as multi times Platinum in the UK, Germany, Argentina, Australia, Italy and many more.
News of this also comes as Elijah Wood recently announced plans to DJ what has been described as a “full-blown Lord Of The Rings rave experience”.
The rave is to take place at the Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom on May 31 for one night only. It has been called a “fantasy-themed event like no other” and “a full-blown Lord of the Rings rave experience set to the sound of carefully curated vinyl selections”. More on this from Nova here.
In a separate interview, Elijah Wood also spoke of his fondness for the Irish people, describing as the "kindest". Read more on this from Nova here.
