Ireland’s great young footballing talent Evan Ferguson has committed his long-term future to Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Republic of Ireland striker – who is still only 19 years of age – has agreed a new contract lasting until 2029.
In 42 appearances for the Seagulls, Meath man Ferguson has netted 15 goals. Since making his debut against Norway last year, he’s scored 3 goals for the Boys in Green.
He’s the first teenager since Wayne Rooney in 2005 to have scored 10 Premier League goals in a calendar year.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi told Brighton’s official media sources, “Evan deserves this new contract and he has a very big future ahead of him.”
Brighton Technical director David Weir added, “Evan is a brilliant young talent and we are delighted for him.
“He’s shown his ability at club and international level, after breaking into the team at the start of the year, and we are looking forward to working with him and watching his continued progress.”
The Bettystown youngster joined Albion from Bohemians in January 2021 and quickly established himself at academy and under-21 level.
He became their fifth youngest senior debutant later that year against Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup.
He scored his first Premier League goal against Arsenal in December 2022 and completed a memorable hat-trick against Newcastle in September.
