Fianna Fáil TD, Malcolm Byrne has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, he confirmed in a statement.
The TD was arrested after he was travelling from his hotel to Dublin Airport, before he was stopped at a mandatory Galway checkpoint in the city centre.
Mr Byrne stated that he is fully co operating with the Gardaí, and that he immediately informed his Fianna Fáil of his arrest.
Fianna Fáil confirmed that Mr Byrne's was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. They have also said that the investigation is ongoing that that he is "cooperating fully with An Garda Síochána, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time".
