Shamrock Rovers have confirmed that head coach James O’Callaghan will leave the club following the conclusion of the 2026 season, less than a year after taking charge of the women’s first team.

O’Callaghan joined the Hoops after an impressive eight-year spell with Peamount United, but his first season in the Women’s Premier Division ended with Rovers finishing fourth in the table.

They finished 15 points behind league champions Athlone Town, in a campaign that bore similarities to their 2025 season, when they placed fifth, 18 points adrift of the same opposition.

In a statement, Shamrock Rovers confirmed O’Callaghan’s departure and thanked him for his contribution to the club.

“Following the conclusion of the 2026 season, we can confirm that James O’Callaghan will be departing his role as First Team Head Coach,” the statement read.

“We would like to thank James for his commitment and professionalism during his time at the Club and wish him all the very best for the future.”

The club have yet to announce who will take charge of the team ahead of the next campaign.

Meanwhile, the nominees for the SSE Airtricity Manager of the Year award have also been announced.

Athlone Town manager Lily Agg has been shortlisted following her side’s league title success, while Shelbourne boss Sean Russell is nominated after guiding his team to FAI Cup glory.

Sligo Rovers manager Gavin Hughes completes the shortlist, with all three now in contention for the individual accolade.

The award recognises the achievements of managers across the Women’s Premier Division, with the nominees reflecting another competitive season in Irish women’s football.
