The country looks set for a welcome spell of sunshine for the next few days.

Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather said the bright spell looks set to stay for the weekend and even into the start of next week.

‘The weekend is still looking much better with very little rain and sunny spells. The dryer spell looks likely to last into early next week at least,’ he posted on X.

Met Éireann forecasters warned there will be some rain on Thursday before mostly clear skies over the weekend.

‘A bright start tomorrow with sunny spells and well-scattered showers.

‘Cloud will build from the southwest through the afternoon with outbreaks of rain and drizzle extending to all areas through the evening. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees, in light to moderate southwesterly winds,’ they wrote.

On Friday, any cloud and rain will clear eastwards early on with sunny spells and scattered showers following.

‘Some of the showers will be heavy and thundery, possibly merging to longer spells of rain at times through the day. Breezy too with fresh and gusty southwest winds developing, and highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees.’

But Saturday will see the first of the clear weather kicking in.

‘Spells of sunshine and well-scattered showers, becoming more isolated later in the day. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in light to moderate west to northwest breezes,’ the national forecaster is predicting.

And more of the same on Sunday, which will be ‘mostly dry with variable amounts of cloud and sunshine and the odd light shower. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in mostly light southeasterly or variable breezes.’

And it seems the high pressure system over the country is here to stay for now.

‘Current indications show mostly settled conditions continuing for early next week with spells of sunshine and possibly an increase in temperatures,’ says Met Éireann.
