Dublin Airport is experiencing flight disruptions today as severe weather conditions across Europe and the UK continue to affect airline operations. While the airport itself remains operational, a number of inbound and outbound flights have been cancelled due to adverse conditions at other European airports.
The disruption follows widespread weather-related cancellations across the continent. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has confirmed at least 700 flight cancellations this week as heavy snow and strong winds hit the region. Some stranded passengers were forced to spend the night in the terminal, with airport authorities providing camp beds and breakfast.
In France, around 100 flights were cancelled at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, while a further 40 services were grounded at Orly Airport due to heavy snowfall.
In a statement issued yesterday, Dublin Airport confirmed eight cancellations from today’s flight schedule, including three return services between Dublin and Amsterdam and one return service between Dublin and Brussels. Airport officials warned that further disruption is possible.
“While Dublin Airport is fully operational today, some disruption to flight schedules is possible due to weather issues at other airports in Europe and the UK,” the statement said.
“Airlines have cancelled eight flights from today’s schedule. Further disruption is possible. As always, passengers should contact their airline directly for the latest updates regarding the status of their flight.”
The airport also highlighted the risks posed by snow and ice to aircraft safety.
“It is essential that aircraft have enough braking action to allow them to stop safely on a runway when moving at speed,” Dublin Airport said.
“A build-up of snow or ice on a runway can dramatically reduce the available friction required for braking, thus making it unsafe for aircraft. Taxiways may also be withdrawn from service for this reason.”
Several individual flight cancellations have been confirmed, including:
-
17.15 flight to Amsterdam, operated by Aer Lingus
-
17.15 flight to Amsterdam, operated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
-
13.25 flight to Amsterdam, operated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
-
11.05 flight to Paris Orly, operated by Transavia France
Passengers are being strongly advised to check directly with their airline, as well as airline websites and social media channels, for the most up-to-date flight information.
