An investigation has been launched after a Garda patrol car was rammed by a stolen vehicle in South Dublin.
This incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning last, after Gardaí had responded to calls of dangerous driving on the M50 near Leopardstown at around 2am.
The stolen car was noticed at Glencairn Drive, The Gallops, and Gardaí had signalled for the vehicle to stop. But the car did not heed this warning, and rammed the patrol vehicle, before the occupants fled the scene on foot.
Following this, a Garda spokesperson said that investigations into the incident remain ongoing. It was also reported that the male driver of the Garda patrol car was uninjured in the incident.
News of this comes after it had been reported that five teenagers were killed following a horrible car crash along the M9 in Co Kildare, which also took place in the early hours of Sunday morning. This happened after the teenagers had been travelling in a BMW, which collided with a Hyundai which was carrying four members of an extended family.
It had been reported that the BMW was driving on the wrong side of the motorway twice in the minutes leading up to the accident.
This happened at approximately 3am.
