The Award winning Irish actor Gary Lydon has died suddenly aged 61.

Gary Lydon, who was born in England to Irish Parents, moved to Ireland at age 9, where he lived in Wexford with his family.

It was in Wexford that Lydon first found his love for acting. He first began preforming on stage, in Billy Roche's Wexford Trilogy in the 80's.

Lydon was drawn to acting, as moving to Ireland at such a young age had caused him to feel like an outsider. Lydon had previously said "it was like a shock to the system". Acting was a moment to escape for Lydon. He had often felt himself drawn to characters with similar quality's to himself. In a Statement after his death his longtime friend and colleague Billy Roche remarked "He was a talented and beautiful actor who truly was a method actor who entered right into the character,"

Lydon took his mothers maiden name to pursue his acting career in England where he began working in the bush theatre. Lydon then returned to Ireland for his role as Patrick Murray in the Clinic, for which he won two IFTA's in 2005 and 2006.

This secured Gary his spot in Irish hearts. He has continued to shine in an Irish spotlight with his roles in; Love/Hate, Brooklyn, and most notably the Banshees of Inisherin.

Most recently Lydon appeared beside his son James where it all began in Wexford Arts Centre stage to star in Of Mornington written by Billy Roche. In a statement Mr.Roche said it was "very moving he was in my first play and my most recent play,". Which comes as a full circle moment for both Lydon and Roche.

Lydon was a family man through and through with his son James saying "his greatest pride was being a father," and "he will sorely be missed,"
