Gorillaz have said that they will "pass it on to the next generation", when asked about their future plans.
This comes after the band released their new album, 'The Mountain' last month, 25 years after their classic self titled debut album.
The band were created by Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, and the pair recently spoke about their plans for their future, which has been seen as a highly collaborative project.
“We’ll pass it on to the next generation", Albarn told the Associated Press. “Why not? The cartoon is more important than the people [behind the scenes], although the people are very important".
Hewlett then commented that “it would be fun to pass it on to a younger team” at some point in the future. He also added: “We’ve talked about that a lot".
While he was not entirely accurate with his comparison, Hewlett revealed: “Bob Clampett passed Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck on to Chuck Jones".
Former Blur frontman, Damon Albarn added: ”It may be interesting to be just there in the background [in Gorillaz] for the next generation to start off, and then [step back]. There is a point of finality in all of this. Maybe the secret is lots of outtakes… I’ve got a lot of those".
Bob Clampett and Chuck Jones were also contemporaries in directing Looney Tunes. They were also rivals who disputed over credit for the popularity of Bugs Bunny. It is also noted there was not a straightforward transition between the pair.
This comes days after Damon Albarn performed on SNL with Gorillaz, which was hosted by Ryan Gosling, who was hosting the late night show for the fourth time. More on this story from Nova here.
Gorillaz released their album, 'The Mountain' last October, which also featured collaborative tracks, 'The Hardest Thing' and 'Orange County', including contributions from Bizarrup, Kara Jackson, and Anoushka Shankar. The album itself arrived on February 27.
