Carlos Santana has cancelled his residency at Las Vegas after undergoing a heart procedure over the weekend.

He was due to take to the Vegas stage yesterday (Dec 1) for the first of his eight shows across December. He is to return to Vegas on January 26.

These performances were due to take place at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

“150 per cent”

Confirming his cancellations, Santana had this to say.

“Last Saturday I had an incident where I asked my wife Cindy to take me to the hospital because I had this thing happening in my chest”, he said in a video statement.

“So we went there (and) we found out we had to take care of it. So I am, and I’m going to be taking time out for a little bit to make sure I replenish and I rest and catch up with my health so that when I play for you I would play the way I’m used to and give you 150 percent. I wouldn’t show up unless I can do that”.

Santana added that he wanted to share this video statement, in order to clear up “rumours flying around here and there”.

He concluded by saying, “I hope you and your family are enjoying good health, peace of mind, and joy. I know I will. Thank you for being a fan, and your oneness, and your caring. Peace”.

Kirk Hammett On Santana

Back in March, Metallica guitarist and long time friend of Santana, Kirk Hammett confirmed that he was to also feature in an upcoming album from the rocker.

Announcing the news, Hammett had said, “Every morning I want to wake up with the confidence that I’m going to be starting my day with coffee that holds quality in both taste and caffeination”.
