A fundraiser has been launched to help bring a 23-year-old man home to Ireland after he tragically died while surfing in Bali.

The GoFundMe was set up three days ago to support Hai’s family and loved ones following his sudden death while travelling in Indonesia.

According to the fundraiser, Hai had been travelling in Bali with his partner, Aoife, who is now facing the devastating loss while away from home and her family.

His family are also facing the emotional and financial burden of bringing him home to Ireland and arranging his funeral.

The fundraiser has set a target of €100,000, with almost €70,000 raised so far.

Donations will go towards the costs of repatriating Hai from Bali, flights and travel for his immediate family, funeral expenses and other unexpected costs following his death.

The organisers said the circumstances had happened completely unexpectedly and appealed for support to help ease some of the financial pressure on the family as they grieve and prepare to say goodbye.

‘Any donation, no matter how big or small, would mean so much to the family,’ the appeal says.

Those unable to donate have also been asked to share the fundraiser with friends and family.

The organisers also thanked everyone who has donated or shared the appeal, saying the support, kindness and love shown to Hai’s loved ones means a great deal during what they describe as an ‘incredibly difficult time’.
