Imelda May paid a heartfelt tribute to her late father Tony Clabby.

The singer’s father passed away last Friday (January 5), and was laid to rest at St Catherine’s Chruch on Meath Street today.

Previously confirming her father’s passing, Imelda May had previously released this statement.

“We are heartbroken but truly grateful. More than anyone I’ve ever met, Dad was pure LOVE. As he said himself only hours ago, he’s had a great time, it’s time to go easy, it’s time to go to Madge. And true love lives forever”, she said.

Outside the church, Imelda May spoke about a request that her father made for the funeral.

“He made us dress him up in a clown suit for the open coffin… which we did, and everybody laughed as they came in. He just wanted joy and laughter”, May said.

The singer also shared a video via her Instagram account, revealing that her father’s coffin was also surrounded by flowers and colourful balloons, and a painting of two clowns.

At the funeral, Imelda May’s brother Brendan also paid tribute to their father, saying that he “never stopped”, adding that he would even get his family to refer to him as Mr Wonderful.

Back in 2021, Imelda May also paid a heartfelt tribute to her mother Margaret Clabby, who passed away aged 94. More on this here.
