James Corden has opened up about his life after Late Night hosting.

Describing life away from hosting as an exercise in “pride swallowing”, Corden told Jimmy Fallon that the adjustment to his new life has been “overwhelming”.

James Corden left his role as host of The Late Late Show in the US last April, saying that he wanted to spend more time with his family.

“pride-swallowing siege”

Speaking about adjusting to life away from hosting, nine months on from his departure, Corden told Fallon, “I have really not been doing anything”.

“It’s overwhelming,” he continued. “It’s an up-at-dawn, pride-swallowing siege”.

James Corden went on to speak about experiencing “the darkest moment” of his life since stepping away from hosting, before explaining that he was actually talking about taking his three children to a water park.

“You know what it’s like when you’re at Disney World,” he said. “Now imagine everyone is in their underwear. Yeah. And everyone’s peeing, all the time… people are having conversations, just peeing”.

Elsewhere, Corden also mentioned the three things which he particularly misses about hosting his own show.

These were, being part of a “gang”, having a ready-made excuse to get out of social engagements, and the general excitement of preparing a show every day.

“The thing I miss more than anything, which I didn’t realise at the time and only realise now, is you’ve got a ready-made, built-in excuse to get out of anything you don’t want to do,” he said.

“You just say to people, ‘I can’t, I’ve got a show’ … Everyone believes you”.

In October 2022, James Corden spoke about regretting his conduct at a French restaurant, which saw him get embroiled in a conflict with staff. This happened after the former host found a hair in his main course.
