Joe Brolly has launched legal proceedings against RTÉ.

The All-Ireland winner with Derry in 1993 and former GAA pundit has filed papers with the High Court, in what is apparent case of defamation against the national broadcaster.

Mr Brolly’s contract with RTÉ wasn’t renewed during the summer of 2019.

In March, he took part in a highly charged panel discussion on RTÉ’s Claire Byrne Live, but his video link was muted and he was removed from the debate on a united Ireland.

Hyper critical comments made about the DUP party, appeared to irritate the host Claire Byrne who then took evasive action.

After the show, Mr Brolly wrote on Twitter that he was “taken off air” due to his remarks, and shared screenshots of news stories which, he claimed, backed up his points.
