Johnny Marr has called out Donald Trump for using his music at rallies.
This comes after a video had been circulating online, showing Marr’s B side track Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want playing during a Trump rally at South Dakota last year.
Former US President Donald Trump is running for the Republican Party nomination for the White House for 2024.
Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has expressed his annoyance at his track being used at Trump rallies via social media.
“consider this s*** shut down right now”
Taking to X, Johnny Marr has made his stance on Trump using his music at rallies very clear.
“Ahh…right…OK. I never in a million years would’ve thought this could come to pass. Consider this s*** shut right down right now”, the guitarist wrote.

Marr’s public display of discontent of Trump using his music at rallies, follows a long line of musicians who have condemned the former US President for using their material, and have subsequently distanced themselves from the former president.
Last April, Duncan Jones the son of the late musician David Bowie, also called out Trump for using his father’s music at his speeches.
After becoming the first former US President to be charged with a crime last year, Trump opted for Bowie’s track Rebel Rebel during his post arrest speech.
“Pretty sure this f****r keeps on using my dad’s music just to annoy me personally”, Jones wrote on X. “(Joke. I’m way below his radar.)”.
In 2022, Bowie’s first wife Mary Angela Barnett also criticised Trump for using the late musician’s track Heroes for his presidential bid.
“Pretty sure he is just doing that to wind me up”, Mary Angela Barnett wrote at the time.
Other musicians who have called out Trump for using their music also include Rihanna, Queen, and Adele. More on this from Nova here.
