At a Dublin press conference yesterday, Jon Bon Jovi charmed Irish fans with his trademark humour — and a touch of sentimentality. Speaking ahead of the band’s upcoming 2026 world tour, the rock icon reflected on his long-standing affection for Ireland and its people. The room erupted in laughter, but behind the light-hearted tone was a genuine warmth that’s marked Bon Jovi’s relationship with Ireland for decades. The band has played here numerous times, from the RDS to Slane Castle, and the singer has often spoken about how Irish audiences hold a special energy.

The press conference marked a celebratory moment in what’s been a major comeback year for the frontman. After several years away from touring, Jon Bon Jovi has re-emerged with renewed energy following a difficult period of vocal chord surgery and recovery — a process he’s described as one of the hardest challenges of his life.

The frontman’s story is one of persistence. Born John Francis Bongiovi Jr. in New Jersey, he rose to fame in the 1980s as the driving force behind Bon Jovi, one of the biggest rock bands of all time. With hits like “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “You Give Love a Bad Name,” “Wanted Dead or Alive” and “Bed of Roses,” the group became a fixture on radio and MTV, defining the sound of an era. Over forty years later, Bon Jovi’s music remains a staple of classic rock, fuelled by sincerity and the sense of connection Jon still feels with his audience.

Back in 2022, doctors discovered one of his vocal cords had atrophied, leaving it unable to vibrate properly. He underwent complex surgery to insert an implant that would help restore his voice, but the long recovery forced the band to delay multiple projects, including the release of their album Forever. “When we wrote, recorded and were about to release the 'Forever' album it was meant to coincide with the tour and the documentary and the 40th anniversary, but I looked at the guys and I said ‘guys I’m just not ready,’” he said in a recent interview. “It broke all of our hearts. The record was gonna have to be shelved.”

That moment of pause gave birth to something new. Jon began calling up friends and fellow artists, reimagining the record as a series of collaborations. “I thought, wait a minute — ‘The Beatles song’, with a little help from my friends. Then I started to call people, and the first call I made was to Robbie Williams.” From there, Bruce Springsteen and Avril Lavigne joined the project, turning Forever into Forever (Legendary Edition) — a celebration of endurance and friendship that now marks a new chapter in Bon Jovi’s career.

When asked by host Eddie Rowley about his Irish ties, the singer smiled and said, “I’ve always jokingly said my children are Irish, my wife is Irish. I’m still aspiring to be Irish. That’s why I keep coming back.”

With the record ready for release and the singer’s voice fully restored, Bon Jovi is gearing up to return to the road. The band will play Croke Park on Sunday, 30 August 2026, marking their first Irish performance in several years. The Dublin concert will be one of the major highlights of their 2026 world tour, which also includes shows in New York, Edinburgh and London.

Tickets for the Dublin date go on general sale at 9am on Friday, 31 October, priced between €82.25 and €161.25, excluding fees. Presales will be available through MCD and Mastercard.

For fans, the Croke Park gig won’t just be another Bon Jovi show — it’s the homecoming of a frontman who’s been through one of the toughest battles of his career and come out the other side. Standing at the podium in Dublin, Jon Bon Jovi spoke with gratitude, clearly thrilled to be back in a city that has always embraced him.

“I’m still aspiring to be Irish,” he laughed — and from the reaction in the room, Ireland might just be ready to make it official.
