Josh Homme has compared Ozzy Osbourne's "poetic" death to David Bowie's passing in 2016.
The Black Sabbath frontman passed away in July aged 76 just weeks after the band played their final farewell show in Birmingham as part of their 'Back To The Beginning' at Villa Park. Osbourne was laid to rest as thousands of fans left plenty of flowers and messages for the late singer, with the hearse making its way through Birmingham, alongside his family through to Broad Street.
Osbourne's beloved Aston Villa also paid their own tribute to him ahead of their opening Premier League clash with Newcastle last Saturday. More on this from Nova here.
Speaking to Radio X, Josh Homme called Osbourne's death "poetic", having happened so soon after Black Sabbath's farewell show.
“I think it was such a poetic ending to a career that you just can’t take your eyes and ears off of", Homme said. “I mean, I could watch Ozzy do anything. Well, almost anything. But, you know, if he was squeezing orange juice, I’d be like, ‘We should watch this. Something beyond juice is coming,’ you know? I just think he’s a classic".
The Queens of the Stone Age frontman continued: “I think his passing was poetic, and I feel for the family, because that’s such a loss. But I also think that I believe that they see the poetry in that too. You know, I think David Bowie’s passing was that those are two poetic ways to go".
Homme was likely referring to David Bowie's passing from cancer in January 2016, just two days after the release of his final album, 'Blackstar'. He was 69 years old.
In 2022, Bowie's widow Iman, said grieving privately over the death of her beloved husband David Bowie was "too much". The couple married in 1992, and shared a daughter together. More on this from Nova here.
