The Cabinet is to meet today to consider new restrictions to help stop the spread of Covid-19.
It is believed that they will reintroduce all Level 5 restrictions including the closure of non-essential retail, gyms and people being restricted to within 5km of their homes.
1,546 new cases of Covid were recorded yesterday with 9 additional deaths.
Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris said the country is in a “dark and worrying place” as Covid numbers continue to rise.
