The National’s Bryce Dessner has joined forces with Paul Simon to complete a new version of ‘Can’t Run But’. You can check out the song below.

The song originally featured on Simon’s 1990 album “The Rhythm Of The Saints” and their new vision for the song, will feature on Simon’s upcoming album ‘In the Blue Light’ to be released on September 7th.

Dessner devised an arrangement for the new version as well as instrumental ensemble music that features on the re-worked track. ‘In the Blue Light’ is the fourteenth studio album of Simon’s career, and it comprises of ten re-imagined versions of songs from his back-catalogue.

Speaking about the project to NME earlier this year, Simon said, “I hope the listener will find these new versions of old songs refreshed, like a new coat of paint on the walls of an old family home. It’s an unusual occurrence for an artist to have the opportunity to revisit earlier works and re-think them; to modify, even completely change parts of the originals.”

Simon expressed his joy and gratitude to work with a divers group if musicians,“Happily, this opportunity also gave me the gift of playing with an extraordinary group of musicians, most of whom I hadn’t recorded with before.”

Paul Simon brought his Homeward Bound Farewell Tour to the RDS on Friday, July 13th. According to Simon, the Homeward Bound tour is a fitting culmination of a performing career that began in the early 1960s and has coincided with his artistic journey as a songwriter and recording artist until the present day.
