A man and a woman were left with serious injuries after a car they were travelling in crashed through a barrier on the M50.
The man and woman, aged in their 80s crashed through the barrier before coming down a verge onto the M50. This happened at the flyover by Junction 10 Ballymount beside the slip road on the southbound lane of the motorway.
They were taken to hospital with serious injuries, after emergency services attended the scene at around 3.20pm.
Since then, the road was closed while a forensic examination could take place, but it has since reopened. No other injuries were reported.
According to Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), there was still heavy congestion in the area that evening, with tailbacks reported as far as Junction 6 Blanchardstown.
