Paul McCartney has reissued five of his classic albums as iPad apps, the chosen five records are a mix of solo efforts and recordings with Wings.

The LPs are McCartney (1970), RAM (1971), Band On The Run (1973), Wings over America (1976) and McCartney II (1980).

Each App will include a mix of original remastered tracks, interviews, photos, artwork and videos of rehearsal sessions and documentary footage. (Details of each app at the bottom of the page).

Macca has followed in the footsteps of Icelandic singer Bjork, who released Biophilia is the world’s ‘first app album’ in collaboration with Apple. Bjork’s app allowed users to interact with the music and visuals. She described the project as a multimedia collection to Consequence of Sound, “encompassing music, apps, Internet, installations, and live shows,” Bjork said.

When you first open the Biophilia app, you hear the voice of David Attenborough explaining the concept as you approach a 3D cosmos – you can check out the video of it below.

The re-release albums are available on Apple’s App Store now, each priced at €6.00, less than the price of the albums on iTunes, which go for €8.00 or €10.00 for the deluxe editions.

The McCartney app will feature the original 13 track album audio remastered, 8 video performance clips, an extensive interview with Paul, rare photos of Paul & Linda and full album artwork and history of the making of the album.

The RAM app has the original 12 track album audio remastered, 5 video clips including a new documentary narrated by Paul, interviews, unpublished photos by Linda McCartney, full album and single artwork plus a full history of the making of the album.

The Band On The Run includes the original 9 track album audio remastered, 6 video clips including Behind-the-scenes at the iconic album cover shoot in London’s Osterley Park, interviews, photos and full album and single artwork and history of the making of the album

The Wings over America app features the original 28 track live album audio remastered, a 75 minute documentary Wings over the World, interviews, tour photography and a replica tour book with itineraries, the tour programme, memorabilia and lyric.

McCartney II has the original 11 track album audio remastered, 8 video clips including rehearsal footage, interviews, unpublished photos by Linda McCartney and full album and single artwork plus a full history of the making of the album.
