Meryl Streep is to star as Joni Mitchell in the new Cameron Crowe directed biopic about the singer.
According to Rolling Stone magazine, record executive Clive Davis confirmed the casting at his pre Grammy awards party last Saturday (January 31) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
This report comes amid rumours had surfaced last year that Anya Taylor-Joy has been cast as a younger version of Mitchell. Casting of the younger version of the singer was not confirmed at the time of writing.
Previously, Crowe had hoped that would be released at the end of last year, but that did not materialise.
“It’s Joni’s life, not through anybody else’s prism. It’s through her prism. It’s the characters who impacted her life that you know and a lot that you don’t know. And the music is so cinematic", Crowe said in a previous interview with Classic Rock.
Reports of Meryl Streep and Anya Taylor-Joy starring in this biopic emerged last year, after Crowe had initially suggested that the biopic would arrive last year.
Can't confirm that," Crowe said during an interview at the time. "I wish I could".
He later added: "Soon I’ll be able to speak more definitively about who's in it and how we're gonna do it and everything". More on this from Nova here.
