Met Éireann have said that April 2026 was warmer and wetter than average.
The national forecaster's latest Climate Statement revealed that the mean temperature for April was 9.69C, making it the 12th warmest April since 1900. The highest temperature recorded was at Claremorris, Co Mayo on April 24, which was recorded at 21.3C.
It was also reported that all 25 Met Éireann weather stations had recorded temperatures above their 1991-2020 Long Term Average (LTA).
Plenty of rainy spells were also recorded over the month, with 92.7 mm of rain also recorded, making it wetter than normal, according to this report. The highest daily rainfall total recorded was taken from Belmullet, in Co Mayo at 38.6 mm on the fourth of this month.
This was the 21st wettest April recorded since 1941.

The report also found the number of rain days (a day in which more than 0.2mm of rain is measured) ranged from 13 days at a few stations to 21 days at Belmullet.
It found the number of wet days (when more than 1.0mm of rain is measured) ranged from eight days at a few stations to 19 days at Belmullet.
Elsewhere, the number of very wet days (when more than 10mm of rain is measured) ranged from zero days at a few stations to six days at Valentia Observatory, Co Kerry.
Met Éireann have said that the wettest April on record was found to be Mace Head in Co Galway, with 109.8 mm of rain fall recorded. Two stations in the east, Casement Aerodrome and Phoenix Park in Co Dublin had dry spells, which lasted 15 days, from April 16-30.
The dry spells, which are ongoing, were less than 0.1mm of rain falls.
