Netflix has announced a new Stranger Things special giving fans an intimate look at how the final season of the global hit was brought to life, just days after the saga came to a close. The behind-the-scenes documentary — titled One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things Season 5 — is set to premiere on January 12, 2026 on the streaming platform, offering viewers a last extended journey into the world of Hawkins before the franchise moves fully into its next chapter.
In its first five days on the platform, the sci-fi show'slast seasondrew an astonishing 59.6 million global views, marking the biggest English-language premiere week in Netflix history and placing it among the top three launches ever on the service. This dramatic surge represented a roughly 171 per cent increase on the opening of Season 4, and helped push all previous seasons back into Netflix’s global Top 10 charts simultaneously.
The announcement of this last adventure follows the emotional reception to the two-hour concluding episode of Stranger Things Season 5, which dropped in the early hours of New Year’s Day. The final instalment wrapped up a story almost a decade in the making, with episodes released in three waves across late 2025 before audiences finally saw Hawkins’ fate at the close of the year.
Rather than extending the narrative with another fictional episode, Netflix’s new special pulls back the curtain on how the final season was crafted. According to the official synopsis, One Last Adventure “is a sweeping behind-the-scenes chronicle that follows the cast, creators, and crew as they bring the final season to life — and say goodbye to the show that changed them forever.”
Directed by Martina Radwan, the documentary stems from over a year of access on set, with Radwan capturing moments from table reads, emotional goodbyes, and candid conversations with the cast and filmmaking team. Radwan described the experience as a “true privilege — and an absolute thrill,” highlighting the generosity of the actors and crew in sharing their stories from nearly a decade working on one of Netflix’s most successful series.
Fans can expect interviews and footage featuring Stranger Things co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer, along with key cast members who have grown up before cameras since the show’s 2016 debut. The documentary promises insights into the creative process behind pivotal scenes, the technical challenges of shooting complex sequences, and the heartfelt moments that marked the end of an era.
Stranger Things has been a cultural phenomenon since its launch, influencing music, fashion and pop culture worldwide while forging deep connections with its audience. Now, with the series concluded on Netflix and this reflective special on the way, One Last Adventure offers fans a chance to revisit the magic behind the scenes and see how it all came together for a final farewell.
