A new book about the Beatles has mentioned an encounter involving John Lennon, which left Mick Jagger “uncomfortable”.
This book titled, All You Need Is Love, focuses on an oral history of The Fab Four, and will arrive on Thursday (April 11).
All You Need Is Love consists of interviews taken from controversial 1983 book The Love You Make.
It was written by Peter Brown, and Steven Gaines. Brown was the personal assistant to former Beatles manager Brian Epstein.
“an omerta”
According to the writers, the Beatles were not happy with the book’s contents, with Gaines claiming that “Paul and Linda [McCartney] tore the book apart and burned it in the fireplace, page by page”.
Gaines stated, “There was an omerta, a code of silence around the Beatles, and they didn’t think anyone would come forward to tell the truth”.
Awkward encounter
Speaking about the alleged awkward moment, Peter Brown claimed that it happened when Allen Klein took over as the Beatles’ accountant in 1969.
Klein soon made his presence felt, firing everyone they were working with at the time.
While Paul McCartney did not take a shine to Klein, Steven Gains said that the “interviews suggest it is because Allen Klein offered Yoko a million dollars for her movie project”.
He also added, “She was enticed and John would do anything Yoko said”.
Peter Brown had reportedly requested a meeting with the Beatles and Mick Jagger, to “explain who this Allen Klein was”.
Allen Klein had also managed the Rolling Stones in 1965. However, Jagger’s distrust of him led to his departure in 1970. This also led to a long term legal feud between the pair.
Peter Brown also added that John Lennon “in his wonderful way, had Klein turn up to the same meeting, which was deeply embarrassing” and “made Mick very uncomfortable”.
