A street in New York is to be named after Jimi Hendrix.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that West 8th in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, was to be co named Jimi Hendrix Way. This street is where Hendrix's iconic Electric Lady Studios is located.
However, the event, which was meant to take place in February, was postponed due to a snowstorm, and has now been scheduled for next week (June 10) at 11am. The ceremony will take place a block from the studio, according to reports.
It was also confirmed that E Street Band member, Stevie Van Zandt would be attending this event, which coincides with the launch of a new education partnership with his education initiative, TeachRock, which uses music and pop culture to expand learning in schools.
It will also lead to the addition of a Hendrix curriculum for students at the middle and high school level.
The ceremony will also be attended by Janie Hendrix, President and CEO of Experience Hendrix LLC, as well as Hendrix producer, Eddie Kramer, Living Colour's Valerie Simpson, NYC District 2 council member Harvey Epstein, as well as a group of local TeachRock teachers and students.
News of this also comes after Marshall announced a set of special edition releases to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its association with the late Jimi Hendrix.
They released a limited edition 1959 JMH 100W Half Stack and 1960 AJMH 4x 12 cab, along with a limit-edition Fuzz Face Pedal, in honour of “Hendrix’s iconic sound and cosmic aesthetic".
Paying tribute to Hendrix, Marshall said: “Hendrix didn’t just play through Marshall amps, he redefined what they could do. From London and Monterey in ’67 to Woodstock ’69, he tamed the raw power of the Marshall stack to shake the world".
They announced there is a psychedelic Purple Haze-esque artwork given to the amp, pedal and cab, along with a purple LED indicator and silver detailing inspired by Hendrix's jewellery. More on this from Nova here.
