Bono has said that Noel Gallagher is "shocked" by how good Oasis are sounding, ahead of their much anticipated reunion shows.
The U2 singer spoke about this in a new interview with Apple Music 1's Zane Lowe, where he explained why he thinks brothers Noel and Liam have had a remarkable impact on the world of indie music.
“I love them. I just love them,” the singer said. “And what I really love is, the preciousness that had gotten [into] indie music, they just blew it out. There was just the swagger, and the sound of getting out of the ghetto, not glamorising it".
“They’re both funny,” he continued. “I’m still very close with Noel, and he sent a message to me saying he’s kind of shocked by how great the band is [sounding at rehearsals]. I think we’re going to have a good summer".
When asked if he would be attending any of these shows from Oasis' comeback tour, Bono said that "of course" would go to see them rock the stage.
“I remember what they did. Those big guitars, big Neil Young [inspired], generous sounds – they were against the law in the UK. But they were like ‘No, I’ll do what I want’,” Bono stated. “They had this rhythmic, beautiful quality to them… and Manchester was very influenced by dance music, so they were groovier than anybody, they were rawer than anybody".
Elsewhere, Bono revealed that he and The Edge met the Gallagher brothers around the time Oasis were putting together their first album, 'Definitely Maybe' in 1994.
They have even toured together in the past. In 1997, Oasis opened up for U2 in San Francisco, while Noel also joined U2 on tour as a solo artists in 2017.
Ahead of these shows, Liam Gallagher had described reuniting with his brother and Oasis bandmate Noel as "spiritual". More on this here.
