A guitar once owned by Noel Gallagher, famously damaged on the night Oasis broke up, is heading to auction and could fetch up to £500,000.

The legendary 1960s red Gibson ES-355, broken during a backstage altercation at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris in 2009, will go under the hammer this October at Propstore’s music memorabilia live auction in the UK. The instrument, which carries a pre-sale estimate of £250,000 to £500,000, was damaged when Liam Gallagher reportedly smashed it during the brawl that ultimately ended the band.

This sale comes at a poignant moment, as Oasis are currently more than halfway through their reunion world tour—their first since that infamous split.

The auction will feature over 150 Oasis-related items, including Noel Gallagher’s Takamine FP460SC acoustic guitar, famously used to record the classic ‘Wonderwall’, which is estimated at £200,000 to £400,000.

Zak Starkey, former Oasis drummer, shared his thoughts on the upcoming sale:
“I’m extremely proud of my work with Oasis and being able to give fans the opportunity to purchase genuine memorabilia in Propstore’s music auction is a way of them being able to share the journey.”

Propstore’s two-day live auction will take place on 23–24 October, beginning at 3pm BST each day. In total, the auction will include over 550 lots, with a combined estimated value exceeding £3 million, featuring memorabilia from some of the biggest names in music history.

Among the other iconic items:

  • John Lennon’s ‘Lost Weekend’ tinted glasses – estimated at £150,000 to £300,000

  • Michael Jackson’s ‘Smooth Criminal’ white fedora – estimated at £40,000 to £80,000

  • Freddie Mercury’s kimono

  • Elvis Presley’s Grand Prix sunglasses – both estimated at £8,000 to £16,000

  • Jimi Hendrix’s handwritten lyrics for ‘Straight Ahead’ – estimated at £40,000 to £80,000

Mark Hochman, music specialist at Propstore, described the event as:
“Propstore’s auction is a celebration of music history, with guitars that shaped the sound of a generation, handwritten lyrics that capture the first spark of legendary songs, and personal items that offer a glimpse into the lives of the world’s greatest music artists.”

He added:
“From John Lennon’s unmistakable glasses to Noel Gallagher’s iconic guitars, these are not just collectables; they’re cultural touchstones that have inspired millions.”

On the Oasis auction in particular, he remarked:
“The Oasis online auction is a particular highlight, perfectly timed with the band’s return to the stage, and offering fans a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own a tangible piece of their enduring story.”
